If you bought your current Water Heaters for Homes before 2015, you’re in for some big surprises next time around.
Here’s what’s available now from Norhio Plumbing:
Electric Storage Tank Water Heaters
- Under 55 Gallons – These are essentially the same as what you’re used to, although they have more internal insulation to meet or exceed new federal energy efficiency standards. That makes them a little taller and wider, which could pose a problem if your current water heater fits its space snugly.
- Over 55 gallons – New style electric hybrid heat pump water heaters come in two primary sizes – 66, and 80 gallons – and are taller than older style electric water heaters. One thing to keep in mind: these can be installed only in rooms at least 10’ x 10’ since the heat pump portion relies on ambient heat to heat your water. When there isn’t enough, the unit reverts to the electric water heater mode.
Gas Storage Tank Water Heaters
- Under 55 gallons – They feature the same basic technology that you’re used to, but again, they’re taller and wider than pre-2015 models.
- Over 55 gallons – Conventional gas water heaters have been replaced by gas condensing systems, a more energy efficient technology. And, like electric heat pump models, they require more floor space..
Gas Tankless Water Heaters
Tankless systems don’t need to heat water 24/7 so you have plenty of hot water
when you need it. Instead, once you turn on a hot water faucet or appliance, cold
water passes through the tankless unit’s heat exchanger where it’s heated
immediately and sent on its way. With no storage tank to get in the way, you’ll
have more floor space as tankless heat exchangers are wall mounted.
More than ever, you need an experienced hand to guide you through the selection process, and no one does that better than Norhio Plumbing. For more information or a free in-home hot water analysis and new system proposal, contact us today.
