What you don’t know or can’t see can’t hurt you, right? By now, you certainly know better than that Preventing Clogged Sewers .
Here’s one prime example. Every day that goes by without a blocked sewer problem, you assume – even if not consciously so – that you don’t have a problem lurking underground in the pipes you can’t see. We wish we could tell you “fair assumption,” but that wouldn’t necessarily be true.
If you have metal or clay underground pipes, they can crack, separate, or otherwise form openings. Aggressive tree and shrub roots, in search of the very “nutrients” that flow through those pipes, then work their way inside them. As persistent as they are, they can even cause one or more cracks and enter without having been invited.
So, a few lessons for the wise:
• If you’re thinking about planting trees or shrubs around your house, first have your sewer pipes located and then purchase only those plants that can’t reach the pipes.
• We know that parting can be such sweet sorrow, but if existing greenery is hovering above or near sewer pipes, at least consider having them extended and the roots removed.
• But first, hire Norhio Plumbing to use one of our specially designed video cameras to inspect the inside of your pipes. Maybe they’re in perfect conditions…exactly what you’d be hoping for. But if they’re not? Early detection is the key to minimizing damage and the expense to repair it.
More Ways to Prevent Sewer Clogs
Tree and shrub roots aren’t your only concerns. If you want obstruction-free sewer pipes, you’ll want to take these added precautions:
• Throw nothing in your toilet except toilet paper…anything else can eventually cause the sewer version of a log jam and stop or seriously impede the flow of water and waste.
• Keep grease out of your sink drain…that’s like asking for a blockage.
• Food particles also should be disposed of in the garbage or garbage disposal, as appropriate.
Finally, proactively clean your drains with a non-chemical solution to help loosen and free small particles or amounts of grease that are adhering to the inside of your pipes but still can be readily removed.
When all else fails, Norhio Plumbing is ready to provide all the help to resolve drain clogs large and small. Plus, we guarantee your complete satisfaction with our work.
