A family we know in Connecticut is hosting 30 people for Thanksgiving dinner. And while that might sound fun and exciting to some, they have room for six at their dining room table, and 9 if you count the three stools around the kitchen/dining room peninsula.
That means the other 21 invited guests will be filling and grabbing their plates, buffet style, and finding room to sit and feast wherever they can.
But hang on a sec, because the real “fun” is only just beginning. Once dinner is over, even if it’s over in shifts, there is certain to be general hustle and bustle in the kitchen and guests and hosts alike jockey for space to clear the tables, wrap up the leftovers, fill the dish washer, and all the rest that goes with post-dinner clean-up and pre-dessert preparation.
Still not seeing the problem? Well, here at Norhio Plumbing, and plumbers that we are, we see a recipe for a clogged drain or garbage disposal of epic proportions. Or at least sever enough that a professional plumber might just need to be called to the rescue.
For starters, plumbers call the day after Thanksgiving “Black Friday” just like you, but for a very different reason. You see, for us, it’s the busiest drain cleaning day of the year, and never mind for dinner parties of 30! Drains clog up even with little groups of people filling it with stuff.
they shouldn’t, including the following:
- Meat bones of any kind
- Fats, oils, or grease, otherwise known as “FOG”
- Fibrous foods like lettuce and soft vegetables
- Nut shells
- Too many potato skins at any one time as the starches can create their own cloggy mess
From all of us at Norhio Plumbing, we hope Thanksgiving 2014 is your best one ever. But for your own sake, put someone you trust in charge of kitchen clean-up, and someone well aware of the mess that COULD happen unless proper precautions are taken.
But should the worst happen anyway, yes, we’ll be out clearing drains and garbage disposals on Black Friday just like plumbers across the country, and there’s always room for one more.
