The holiday season is upon us and that means plenty of good food, great company and unfortunately, the occasional Food Stains on furniture, carpets, and your great-grandmother’s tablecloth. But don’t worry. With these 4 stain removal tips, you’ll be ready for whatever the holidays throw at you – or your area rug.
Red Wine on the Sofa or Carpet
Your great aunt never could hold her wine – in her hand. At least not during an animated exchange with another family member while parked on your sofa. You know, the new one. Well, fear not, because all you need to clear up that red wine stain is a little salt. First, gently blot the spot with a clean, soft towel, and then cover the stain with a layer a salt. Let it sit for 15 minutes before vacuuming. Spot wash any remaining hint of wine with warm water and mild dish detergent. And then shut your aunt off or ask her to sit elsewhere.
Grease Stains on Clothing
Got a grease splatter on your shirt, dress, or apron? You can save just about any linen with some fast action. Soak the stain immediately with a laundry stain pre-treater. Let that sit for a few minutes, then rub vigorously in a heavy-duty laundry detergent, and launder immediately. Check to see if the stain in completely gone before tossing the item in the dryer. If it’s not, lay it face down on an absorbent towel, and pour dry-cleaning solvent through the back of the stain. Launder one more time.
Gravy on the Tablecloth
Upon clearing the table after your holiday feast, don’t be surprised to find brown-tinged rings from the gravy boat all over your tablecloth. If you can catch the spill or drip in action, use a clean, absorbent cloth to remove as much of the gravy as possible. Do not rub it in! Then, soak the stain with a laundry pre-treater and wash in the hottest water the fabric will allow. Check the stain after the wash cycle, and if it’s still hanging around, soak it in oxygen bleach and wash again.
Coffee on the Area Rug
If a hot “cup o’ joe” finds its way to your carpet or area rug, quickly blot up as much of the spill as possible, without rubbing it in. Once all the guests have gone, combine a tablespoon of vinegar and a tablespoon of mild dish soap in 2 to 3 cups of warm water. Using a sponge, alternately soak the stain with the mixture, and then blot it up with a clean, absorbent towel until the coffee stain is history.
Still, there’s always that potential for a dark stain on your mood, and nothing can facilitate that quite like a clogged drain during post-feast clean-up, especially when your kitchen volunteers don’t play by your rules. Well, clogged drains can and do happen to the best of us, and since 1973, Norhio Plumbing has been here to help clear them up so effectively, it’s like they never happened. Today or anytime at all, we can do the same for you.
