Preventing & Dealing with Frozen Pipes
With especially frigid weather on the door step, we’d like to share some tips on preventing your pipes from freezing and what to do in the case that they do freeze.
All outdoor faucets and piping should have been drained prior to the start of the winter season. If they haven’t been drained yet, we would recommend you close the shut off valve to them and open the faucets a bit to let the water drain out. Disconnect any garden hoses or other piping that may be connected outside as well.
When the temperature gets below 20 degrees, make sure you leave the plumbing kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors open to pipes that are on an outside wall. This will help the air circulate in there, keep it warm and reduce the chances of the piping freezing
