Bathroom Renovation Ideas in Solon and Twinsburg

A bathroom renovation is no easy task, especially if you’re planning to gut your existing bathroom down to the studs. But if done right, a bathroom remodel can give you the spa-like retreat you’ve been dreaming of and even up the value of your home for resale purposes.

On the flip side, a bathroom remodeling job gone awry not only will leave you frustrated, but out a significant chunk of change without seeing a tangible benefit in return.

So before you rip up the tile and order that custom vanity, here are a few things to consider.coolsink

Layout

Just because the toilet was placed next to the sink and opposite the bathtub 50 years ago doesn’t mean that’s how it has to stay for the next 50 years. Yes, changing the footprint of a bathroom will up the price tag, but it could pay off in the long run if the end result is a more spacious, functional room.

Height

Back in the day, your typical bathroom vanity was about 30 inches high. While that was great for washing little faces and hands, it wasn’t so comfortable for most adults. Today’s standard vanities are 36-inch high; if that’s too high, consider a floating vanity that can be placed at a height that best works for you and your family. The same goes for mirrors, shower heads, and other accessories like towel racks and toilet paper holders.

Flooring

If you want an easy-care bathroom floor, avoid porous materials that can absorb stains over time and consider larger, smooth tile substances like glazed porcelain with a tighter grout line. However, for a safer, anti-slip option, take a closer look smaller tiles with lots of grout for improved traction.  Other non-slip surfaces include cork and rubber.

Shower

From cascading-rain shower heads and body jets to zero-threshold entries and built-in niches, today’s shower options are limitless. Also, by removing the tub, you can make room for that luxurious shower experience you’ve been thirsting for. For resale purposes, however, it’s a good idea not to remove the ONLY bathtub in your home.

8 Easy Ways to Remodel Your Bathroom in Aurora and Solon, OH

8It’s one of the busiest rooms in your home. It’s where you prepare for the day ahead or pamper yourself at the end of a long, stressful one. It’s also where your children get lost in a whirlwind of bubbles and laughter. We’re talking, of course, about your bathroom.

But if your bathroom is way past its prime, it may be more like a time machine to 1975 than the soothing retreat you’d like it to be.  Plus, with the high cost of a full bathroom remodel, it’s no surprise that this “to-do” project often gets put on the back burner.

Now, however, you can give that outdated bathroom a new look without denting your savings account.   And if you’re willing to roll up your sleeves and tackle these projects yourself, you’ll keep even more of your hard earned money for yourself.

  • Make your tile look like new by giving the grout a good scrub. And don’t forget the caulk around your tub or shower.
  • Put a fresh coat of paint on the walls for an instant facelift. Consider adding a decorative touch with stripes or stencils.
  • If budget allows, swap out the vanity. Turn an old dresser into a unique focal point. Or simply paint the cabinet you already have.
  • Change out the fixtures and cabinet hardware. Often times, just that simple change can freshen up the space.
  • Add crown molding and beadboard to the walls. Not only is this a classic design feature, it’ll protect your walls from scuffs and scratches.
  • If you have little or no natural light in the bathroom, consider adding recessed lighting or sconces on either side of the mirror.
  • Frame out the standard builder’s mirror with woodwork for a more elegant and modern look.
  • When it comes to bathtubs, they definitely don’t make ‘em like they used to.  So if you have a cast iron tub that looks a little used, consider having it refinished.  That will cost a whole lot less than having it removed and installing a new one.

At Norhio Plumbing, there’s plenty we can do to help you upgrade the look, comfort, and convenience of your bathroom, and all within your budget.  From now faucets to low-flow showerheads and dual-flush toilets, think of us as your partners in making a bold new statement with your bathroom.  One that can also include substantial water and energy savings.
